We have truth in advertising in consumer markets, why is it possible for political ads to blatantly lie? We need a law that makes lying in political ads an acceptable. I understand that the argument for free speech will be used to defend the right of a party to lie, but advertisements are paid for speech and it is not clear why grossly false statements should be allow to be put across public airwaves when they are proven to be false. Political ads should not be protected speech when they are dishonest.
