Truth in Taxation Bill

Created by T.F. on November 14, 2012

Change the tax system to match broad spending programs such as defense, Medicare, infrastructure, social security and others to a specific tax revenue stream. We have that with Medicare and social security already, but even these programs are cross subsidized with general tax revenues. If we had a specific tax for each broadly defined spending category, voters could better decide whether they like that program or not and Congress could raise or lower the taxes based on the feedback from voters. The Medicare tax is too low now to sustain the program. Congress needs to cut the program expenses to match the revenue. If voters object, then Congress has a mandate to raise the tax. That way we can identify which programs we want and which ones have to go and tax accordingly.
