We believe the US government should ask the Ukraine Parliament to lease land bordering Crimea as a military base.
The area in question is small - about 100 miles - and has few roads between Crimea and the rest of Ukraine. It can easily support a US Naval/Air base, similar to the bases in Japan, Italy, and the US Air force base in Kyrgyzstan.
Doing so would send a clear message to Russia, and establish a Naval base within walking distance of Russia if Putin completes his theft of Crimea.
In addition, we could use the possible contents of the base to negotiate certain concessions from Russia about the treatment of Crimea and it's citizens.
