Turn the federal reserve into a real national bank

Turn the federal reserve into a real national bank that can effectively stabilize the national economy. People say this will never work and point out the failures of fanny and freddie, but these entities were allowed to fail because they did not really have the full faith and credit of the United States behind them. A national bank could ensure that people are treated fairly on their mortgages and loans, and is what we need right now to bring the United States out of recession. There are other ways to ensure smaller government and protect liberty than trying to end or audit the fed, without destabilizing our entire economy. What we need right now is a third bank of the United States.
