My 4-year-old son is a smart little guy who’s recently found a love of the stars. Unfortunately, like many kids in the country (especially those in urban areas), space is impossible to view from our home outside of Boston.
On one clear night each year, the federal government should coordinate an effort to turn off the lights, maybe by establishing a holiday similar to the Fourth of July.
To accommodate safety or other logistical concerns, this event might last only for a few hours rather than the whole night. Provisions will have to be made for selecting a suitable date once weather patterns are known, or for selecting alternates as appropriate.
The federal government should encourage all residences, businesses, local, and state governments to participate.
