Created by D.H. on June 02, 2013

We, concerned citizens, petition the United States
Government to:
Support the twenty two
years of peace, democracy and progress in Somaliland, that
is still lacking international recognition.

In January 1991, the civil war ended
in the northern part of the former Democratic
Republic of Somalia. After
considerable deliberations, first in the port city of
Berbera and then Burao, the capital of Togdheer Region, the different
clans of the Northern Regions achieved reconciliation and on
May 18, 1991 resolved to reconstitute and rebuild the Republic of Somaliland
which gained its independence from Britain on June 26, 1960 and four days later established a union with Somalia
