Right now, the federal government spends $4 on people over 65 and $1 on those under 18. That is intergenerational injustice. The AARP could be a strong voice for reason and intergenerational justice, but they've chosen to lobby for short-sighted, selfish gain.
We will resign from AARP and refuse to rejoin until they support things like the following for high income seniors: 1) A modest increase in the monthly Medicare co-pay; 2) An annual minimal deductible and modest co-pay for Medicare services; 3) Cuts in Social Security; 4) Subject 100% of Social Security income to federal income tax for seniors with a total income over $100,000.
Better-off seniors must make some sacrifices to reduce the budget deficit and provide more essential things like quality education for our children.
