Understand that an "Assault weapon" and/or a "high capacity" magazine ban will accomplish nothing as it did in 1994

We realize that the so called "assault weapons" ban had no significant effect on gun violence back in 1994. So why would that change today. Most of these mass shootings are being performed by criminals or mentally ill civilians that have no right to firearms. we need to create a database to weed out mentally ill civilians to prevent them from buying firearms nationally. As well as prosecuting criminals who will have guns no matter the outcome of a ban. As we have seen today (Jan, 10) a school shooting has taken place in a state that already has a "high capacity magazine" ban and is strict on gun control. We the people realize that no ban will decrease gun violence it will just restrict the rights of law abiding citizens and leave us defenseless against criminals
