Understand the meaning of the 2nd amendment, the right of the people to protect themselves from a tyrannical government.

Created by K.S. on December 20, 2012

The 2nd amendment does not grant a privilege it makes clear that the right to keep and bear arms, can not be taken away by government or any majority of the people. One intent of our nation was and still is to have the people armed and more capable than the standing army in order to protect themselves. Thomas Jefferson said; ""The strongest reason for people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government." The argument often heard is you don't need "assault weapons" but the counter argument is quite clear, in the context of our constitutional rights there is nothing we need more. The 2nd amendment is not about hunting, it is about protection, an assault weapons ban is illegal and unconstitutional.
