Uniform implementation of net metering for small (rooftop) producers of solar energy

Many people across the country find that net metering (the rules that guide payment and charge policies for the small-scale production of electricity from solar energy) varies from state to state and utility to utility. Some companies compensate owners of rooftop solar energy systems fairly while others do not and even charge onerous fees for excess power generated and pushed onto the grid. This petition is a request to the White House and Congress to help standardize net metering so that owners of rooftop solar systems are fairly compensated for producing excess power for the grid while also paying their fair share for maintaining the grid they rely on.
