Since the end of World War Two, internation organizations such as the United Nations and many, countries have pledged to bring to justice and offset the commission of Crimes Against Humanity by nations and organizations engaged in armed conflict. In 1993 during the wars and genocide in Yugoslavia, many nations came together to establish the International Criminal Tribunal for The Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) to promote peace, punish perpetrators and avoid the risk of collective guilt. In 1994 following the genocide in Rwanda, the (ICTR), was established to punish perpetrators and prevent future crimes by high and mid-level officials. The International Criminal Court, was established in 2003 as a permanent court to prosecute war crimes, crimes against humanity and pressure the UN to do so.
