"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed"
We don't know why the authors chose this specific language. What we do know is that this amendment was written before there were street lights, police forces, security systems, or assault rifles. This amendment was ratified in 1791. There have been over 200 years' worth of advances in weapons technology and social policy. People are dead. More people will die. It's time to update our laws.
We want Congress and The White House to aggressively pursue altering the language of the Second Amendment to reflect a carefully written, common-sense legal position on the classification and control of weapons, while maintaining our right to bear arms.
