The standard high school physics curriculum is based on knowledge gained from approximately the Civil War (1865) and before. It does not include advances discovered in General Relativity, Special Relativity, Quantum Mechanics, and more.
Approximately 1/3 of our economy is based on products that depend on quantum mechanics, like MRI imaging, cell phones, and flat-screen TVs, but our high schools don't even touch on the subject in physics classes.
We need to update the high school curriculum to include a better understanding of modern physics in order to foster the innovation of the future.
