The current firearms background check system is obviously not adequate enough to serve its purpose it was once designed to do. With all the debate about mandatory background checks, the first goal should be to populate the current system with names and profiles of those that should not possess a firearm such as convicted felons, mentally adjudicated, etc.
Names of felons and relevant information should be merged from the Federal, State and local law enforcement databases to get an accurate database first. The root cause of firearm violence is inner city gang violence, poverty and drug related activity and there is no law that applies to the criminal aspect of these areas. These convicted criminals need to be in the Background Check System.
