Senator Patrick Leahy has proposed a bill called the Electronic Communications Privacy Act Amendments Act. He has now edited this bill to allow the federal government to search any American's email without a search warrant. This is a blatant violation to the 4th Amendment of the United States Constitution. The government needs to have a warrant to search through someone's private emails. The writers of the 4th Amendment wanted to be sure that the government could never search or seize your property, as the British did to them (the reason for the amendment), without having a lawful reason to do so. The 4th Amendment: "The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated..."
