The United States must continue to accept and welcome Syrian refugees to our shores. The promise of freedom and liberty are the founding principles that define America and have made it a beacon of hope for so many. Refusing to accept the Syrian refugees runs contrary to everything America stands for. We cannot and must not allow fear to deter us in upholding these values and defending the basic human right to seek asylum from oppression and war. Turning our back on the Syrian refugees would also mean turning our back on the values that define us as a people and a nation.
