The 2nd Amendment of the Constituion states as follows "A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."In light of the tragic events in Aurora,CO and Newtown,CT we must not allow ourselves to be ruled by fear.We as American's cannot allow the actions of a few deranged individuals to shake us from our core beliefs in the name of fear.The ban on assault weapons would not only violate the constitution but is also a band-aid on a much larger issue, mental illness.According to the FBI homicide page handguns were responsible for 6,009 murders 2010 which is down 1827 murders from 2006.Rifles were used in 358 murders in 2006 as compared to 358 in 2010.The data speaks for itself.
