The purpose of the second amendment is to protect against tyranny. Democracies have gone tyrannical before, not saying our's will anytime soon, but if it does, the people will need to protect themselves, hence the need for assault weaponry. Why should we fear tyranny? Look at Europe; those less than 100 years ago who did not fear tyranny are now ashes at the hands of what was a peaceful government. Keep future generations free, keep the USA the greatest country in the world. If the executive branch of America needs assault weapons to protect itself, so do the American people.
