Urge congress to eliminate the electoral college system through a constitutional amendment.

Created by A.R. on January 18, 2013

The electoral college system has become obsolete in modern America, and now only serves to put political gain over democracy. Eliminating this system and allowing presidential elections to be decided solely by popular vote will reduce the effect of big money in politics, and give every American an equal say, regardless of where they live. In our current system, presidential candidates only have to campaign in a small number of critical states, because only those states matter. This means that fewer advertisements in fewer television market can swing a whole election. In a popular vote system, it becomes much harder to buy elections. For these reasons, Congress should work to ratify an amendment abolishing the electoral college, and allow a popular vote to decide presidential elections.
