Urge Congress to Establish a Multiparty System

Created by C.C. on January 20, 2013

First-past-the-post voting is one among a few factors driving our two major parties to serve strategic constituencies. They often compromise on vision to pragmatically hold together piecemeal voting blocs that are all but required for winning elections.

We the undersigned express concern that this paradigm marginalizes Americans who identify as paleo-conservatives, libertarians, Christian democrats, greens, socialists, etc. in a manner effectively denying them a fair degree of representation in governing institutions.

This is why we ask that you call upon Congress to embrace preferential voting, proportional representation for electing representatives to the House, and take other steps to promote a vibrant, multiparty system. Our representatives should be as diverse in ideals as are we!
