We the people ask the federal government to Call on Congress to act on an issue:

Urge Congress to Lift Restrictions on Gun Violence Research Funding

Created by N.M. on June 14, 2016

In the wake of the tragic shooting in Orlando Florida, Congress has repeatedly failed to create policies that protect their constituents from gun violence. To make sensible policy, Congress must fund research, especially by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), to understand the underlying causes of all forms of gun violence.

Congress has done the opposite. In 1996 they passed the Dickey Amendment, which heavily restricts funding towards gun violence research that can be used to advocate for gun control.

Members of Congress, your silence is killing the constituents you swore to protect. To develop sensible policy, please reconsider the Dickey Amendment and fund gun violence research, so that the CDC can help you draft better laws and to save your constituent's lives.
