Many working people in our country are without health care because of unfair labor practices. Because employers are required to supply health care coverage for full-time employees, some corporations give many workers only part-time work with no health care coverage at all. Many people are forced to work two or three such jobs to make ends meet and still cannot afford health care coverage afterwards. This is a strain on such workers and their families, and is unfair to small businesses.
We propose that employers be required to pay for health care coverage for all their employees: full benefits for full-time employees, proportional benefits for part-time employees. This measure would keep the responsibility for health care coverage with employers, alleviating the burden on the government.
