Urge the DEA to reschedule marijuana from Schedule I to Schedule II

Created by M.N. on April 19, 2016

Schedule I
Heroin
LSD
MDMA (Ecstasy)

Schedule II
Cocaine
Methamphetamine

The scientific/medical research, medicinal use, public opinion, and state laws on marijuana have significantly changed since the initial passing of the Controlled Substance Act (CSA) in 1970.
The CSA has marijuana under schedule I. A list above shows other drugs listed under Schedules I and II. How is cocaine Schedule II, but not marijuana?
23 states and D.C. have laws legalizing some form of marijuana.
It is time that the United States recognizes the many potentials that marijuana has. Moving marijuana from Schedule I to Schedule II would mirror public opinion (58% for legalization), reduce the cost of drug enforcement in the U.S. (≈$40B), and allow more research to occur to determine the full medical potential
