Urge the DOJ to investigate new Florida voting rule which closes all restrooms at polling places on Election Day

Created by D.G. on April 13, 2014

We strongly urge the DOJ & US Atty Gen Eric Holder to investigate and shut down a new policy implemented by the Miami-Dade County (FL) Elections Department to close ALL restrooms at polling sites on election days. This policy has been implemented following a simple inquiry by Disability rights lawyer Marc Dubin on the status of handicap accessible restrooms at polling places. Assistant County Attorney Shanika Graves' written response to that inquiry states “the Department’s policy is not to permit access to restrooms at polling sites on election days," and that the policy is “to ensure that individuals with disabilities are not treated unfairly,”
After the last election in South FL which saw lines 5-6+ hours long, closing all restrooms is unconscionable and should not be allowed to stand.
