In 1976, the East German performance enhancing drug scandal launched a cloud of controversy that has lasted for over 40 years. Allegations that the East German athletes were competing under the influence of performance-enhancing substances were dismissed at the time, but were later proven true. Due to this scandal, competitors who played by the rules were denied their trued earned victories, and their countries denied their moment to celebrate with them. The International Olympic Committee needs to address this injustice and recognize these competitors with their rightful medals and places in the record books. The IOC must uphold Olympic values and show today's youth the importance and value of competing with honor. The California State Senate passed this Resolution 88 on 31 Aug 2016.
