The Keystone XL Pipeline is not only a dangerous risk to the natural environment, but also to nearby communities. Potential oil spills can cause irreversable damage to essential ecosystems, as well as threaten local land and water supplies.
Contrary to claims by TransCanada, the pipeline will not lower gas prices or boost the U.S. economy. The intent of the pipeline is to transport oil from Canada to a port in the Gulf of Mexico, where the oil will be sold on the international market rathen than in the U.S. The jobs that will be created by the project are temporary, and only big oil companies will benefit from it economically.
