In the past, Senators, taking part in a filibuster, would actually have to speak for hours or days on end in order to prevent a bill from being voted on. Now, a group of Senators wishing to stop legislation that, were it ever voted on, would pass must simply call for unlimited debate and the filibuster continues whether or not an obstructing Senator is speaking. It is the opinion of those who have signed this petition that if a group of senators wishes to stand in the way of the will of a majority of the people's representatives, they must be willing to make complete fools of themselves in the process. Today's constant offenders may think twice about using this tactic if it means reading grits recipes for 20 hours in the Senate Chamber while being mocked on every single news channel.
