The White House has already officially declared that GIF is properly pronounced with a hard G.(1) However, the inventor of GIFs, Steve Wilhite, will not accept the truth: “They are wrong. It is a soft 'G,' pronounced 'jif.' End of story." (2) This brazen insult to truth and liberty is corrosive to our national character. Nevertheless, the Webby Awards have seen fit to endorse Mr. Wilhite with a "Lifetime Achievement Award." (3) The White House should repudiate Mr. Wilhite's un-American comments, and urge the Webbys to rescind his award until he recants them.
