This petition, like others before it, is a request that the U.S. Congress and President pass and sign a law making general election days holidays. U.S. general elections are held on even numbered years on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November.
The purpose of this holiday is to promote voter turnout throughout the United States. With low turnout in a country that promotes the democratic process, we should strive to give citizens every opportunity to vote.
Citizens throughout the country cannot always vote, due to their jobs, even when businesses are asked to respect citizens' right to vote. Citizens deserve the opportunity to vote and celebrate this day.
