The largest unclaimed territory on Earth is in Antarctica. Marie Byrd Land, a 620,000 square mile collection of glaciers and rock formations, lies in the western portion of the southernmost continent. The continent of Antarctica was formally divided to claiming nations in the 1959 Antarctic Treaty. Unfortunately, the U.S did not lay claim to available land. However, the Marie Byrd Land is still an unclaimed territory and available for claim. This petition is to herby prompt the United States of America to formally claim the Marie Byrd Land of Antarctica to secure U.S soil on the continent for scientific research and polar preservation.
