It is time for the United States to start a new era of diplomacy, an era of intelligence, responsibility and détente.
The old paradigm of war and force is obsolete. It results in both sides experiencing loss and repercussions for generations to come. Bending other nations to comply to our will through force, sanctions and belligerence does not work. It exacerbates problems and escalates costs. Blockades and force only harm the citizenry of foreign nations whom often have little power over the actions of their governments.
It is time for the Secretary of State and President Barack Obama to phone up world leaders, like Kim of North Korea, sit peacefully with them, hear out grievances and negotiate peaceful and amicable solutions to problems that will mutually benefit both parties.
