Science is increasingly being labeled as a social menace or as an enterprise set out to harm the American public. This is occurring despite the fact that science has benefited society across time and has helped America thrive on the global arena.
I am petitioning the Obama administration to support the scientific enterprise through increased public financing of applied and pure scientific endeavors and by increased social promotion of science across disciplines.
The first part of my petition can be accomplished through many routes, including easing the loan burden of STEM students or providing increased funding to agencies such as NASA or the NSF. The second part of my petition could involve actions such as sponsoring the Google Science Fair or having events like TED but for free.
