Health care prices, except Medicare prices, are exorbitantly high compared to other industrialized countries. The Affordable Care Act does not remedy our uniquely high prices. Just like in those countries and like Medicare over here, the United States government can lower the prices by buying healthcare in bulk from drug manufacturers and medical device makers. Then, sell them to insurance companies to earn back the money in order to not use up tax money.
There is little excuse for not doing anything by blaming "politics" and "vested interests". Its does not affect the budget deficit, a divisive issue, and it is on the side of powerful insurance company lobbies who will have cheaper payouts.
