The 2013 Budget of the U.S. Government reports Net interest of $230 billion for 2011, but it omits interest paid on the $4,636 billion Debt held by Government Accounts -- an estimated $207 billion based on the 2012 Social Security Trustees Report. Because this interest is counted as income for purposes of projecting the OASI and DI trust fund balances, it must be shown as an expense in the federal budget. Hiding this expense gives a false picture of either the size of the federal deficit or the solvency of Social Security programs. This petition requests that all Federal Budgets show both Net interest on public debt and Interest credited to Government Accounts. For 2011 this would result in a deficit of $1,507 billion vs. the reported $1,300 billion, with a greater impact in future years.
