Members of congress get a life long pension at the expense of the tax payers after serving only 5 years. Yet, congress has failed to curtail spending, or produce a balanced budget and has led us into one after another near financial crisis including the fiscal cliff and the sequester. Individuals taxes have been raised, and forced, "Sequestered" budget cuts have been implemented that almost every politician agrees is bad legislation to compensate. If budgetary concerns are such importance that it leads us to continual budget crises, and to ensure that the tax payers are getting their money's worth, I propose that the sequester be used to limit congressional pensions to those who have served 20 years or longer, more in line with the pensions that are available to other federal employees.
