Use more gender neutral language in the campaign to improve higher education's handling of sexual assault complaints.

Created by R.D. on April 29, 2014

The speeches and interviews I've been hearing from the White House compelling higher education to improve their handling of sexual assaults fails to properly identify that men can be victims, too.

An example from an interview Biden gave recently: "Look, guys, no matter what a girl does, no matter how she's dressed, no matter how much she's had to drink, it's never, never, never, never, never OK to touch her without her consent. This doesn't make you a man. It makes you a coward." At no point in that interview did he address men as also being the victims of sexual assault.

Please change the rhetoric to better acknowledge that this serious issue is not solely men victimizing women. To do otherwise further stigmatizes male victims from coming forward.
