Use the name "Daesh" Instead of ISIS or ISIL in Official Communications

Created by D.S. on November 17, 2015

Syrian activist Khaled al-Haj Salih coined the term "Daesh" in 2013 as an acronym of the terror group's Arabic name, with medieval connotations; with the intent of creating a satirical neologism that would provide an alternative that would avoid any acknowledgment of the terror group's claim to being a legitimate ‘state.’ Using the term ISIS, or ISIL, implicitly acknowledges the group's pretensions to statehood, and should be discontinued.
