If we can decrease a murderer's motivation we have a responsibility to do so.
It's reasonable to think some murderers seek fame, celebrity. On the margins of society, an isolated, angry young man might seek the spotlight in death if not in life. Let's deny him that prize.
Let’s focus entirely on the victims and on solutions. We can and should study the murderer's life history to distinguish patterns and warning signs. We can and should apply those lessons to create school, community and religious programs that identify and embrace troubled youth.
So let's only discuss "the murderer" and choose not to celebrate him by using his name or his image. Let’s reward with our viewership the courageous news outlets that take a stand for what is right. Let's remove any glory from carnage
