Currently over 40,000 people are rotting in jail or prison due to convictions for non-violent drug offenses. Each inmate costs an average of $29,000 to house and feed per year. The situation is so out of hand that we now have for profit private prisons because the government has run out of space to house the prisoners. Nearly 75% of Americans support ending the Drug War and coming up with more sensible policies to help curb addiction and drug problems. President Obama, we the citizens beseech to you use your power to both end the failed Drug War, a war against ourselves, and to use your power of pardon to free these victims. Save the prison space for murders, rapists, and other violent offenders.
