On December 1, 2010, the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform released a report summary outlining a detailed plan to bring our national budget to heel. While neither major political party was over-exhilarated with the findings of the commission, both sides took sacrifices to contribute to the common good.
Two days later, partisan gridlock in Washington eliminated any chance of the commission's plan passing. The future creditworthiness of our nation and the stability of our economy was punted down the road for fear of losing a few votes. The Congress chose themselves above their constituents.
We the undersigned acknowledge the time has come to tighten our collective belts. While we may all feel the pain, we believe this plan should be the framework for budget talks.
