While reading coverage of the horrible fertilizer plant explosion in West, Texas on April 17th, and the challenges that first response units and firefighters in particular faced and are still facing, I had a dismaying realization. The technology exists to make their jobs exponentially safer, more effective, and better equipped to save lives... but it is not being offered to them.
Imagine an emergency response drone with the capability of fighting fires that are too dangerous even for helicopters to approach. Imagine being able to search for survivors, and anticipate which areas may need the most immediate attention. Imagine how many additional lives could be saved.
Please think about your priorities, and consider why this existing technology is not being used for such an obvious good.
