The ongoing Ukraine situation should teach the Obama administration NOT to be too quick to make assumptions. Just as the noted scenario has called in question the post-Cold War good feeling with Russia, we call on the administration to also use the circumstance to quit fence-sitting in relation to helping protect the island nation of Taiwan's autonomy & democracy, & yielding most favored nation status to Communist Chinese.
The Russians most likely modeled their current actions on the Communists' turning a peaceable pro-democracy protest in Tienanmen Square into a widely viewed bloodbath as well, seeing Taiwan as a renegade province, they are suspected to have planted a KMT government more conducive to reunification. We condemn both these moves, & urge Obama to act accordingly.
