In the interest of a free and open society, I think we should use the extensive reach of the Postal Service to help maintain our liberties and use those locations not in use as official post offices any longer, as permanent locations for national elections. The U.S. Postal Service has been used for tax returns, Social Security checks and absentee ballots. Using these locations would allow more people to vote locally; we could extend voting over several days or on weekends and the postal workers could be retrained to maintain the integrity of our voting system. These locations would also be good places to begin installing alternate means of voting electronically. Tampering with voting machines would be a federal crime on federal property. The postal system is well-established. Let's use it
