In order to remain world leaders economically and technologically, the U.S. needs to make a considerable investment in space exploration and commercialization; initially coming from future stimulus money. This investment would aid in the development of new space technologies to allow for interstellar space exploration, and provide a long-term position in this future growth area. In the short term, this will create jobs in the manufacturing and R&D industries. The new technologies created will benefit countless industries such as what happened in the Apollo program. Furthermore, the long-term benefits are positioning the U.S. as a technological and economic superpower in space.
