Utilize a program like the NRA's National School Shield system instead of nonsensical and impractical laws like banning so-called "assault" rifles. As Suzanna Gratia Hupp, a survivor of the Luby's massacre, so eloquently put it, it takes a second to reload a gun, which makes the distinction between "assault" rifles and any other weapon null.
Violence will happen, regardless of the laws that are passed. Criminals will not abide by the law. We must have the ability to defend ourselves from these criminals by any means necessary. We station armed guards at sporting events and concerts, but not our children's schools? We protect celebrities and bank tellers, but not our own sons and daughters?
The police simply cannot respond fast enough. We are our own first line of defense.
