validate the government's pledge to make higher education affordable by making student loan payments tax deductible.

Created by K.T. on April 22, 2014

The government has pledged to make education affordable and have backed up its rhetoric with a steady flow of student loans. Unfortunately the price of education in this country is far outpacing the costs of living and the government's virtually indiscriminate lending is partly to blame. Schools know that students will be able to afford increased tuitions with money from Uncle Sam. The result is that students are often left with debt that will not be paid off until they are long into their professional careers. If the government was truly dedicated to offering efficient loans to students, it would allow student loan payments to be fully tax deductible. The government is already playing banker by profiting off of these loans so the least it could do is allow repayment with untaxed dollars.
