On June 24, the House Appropriation Committee voted to rename the road in front of the China Embassy to Liu Xiaobo Plaza, which has deeply hurt the feelings of Chinese people. For the “motherland”, our understanding is that we ourselves can allow different opinions from home, but not the humiliation from abroad. Though the criticizing can be presented in China everyday, the insult from abroad is unacceptable. A sound China-U.S. relation is beneficial to both sides, and thus a sustainable friendship is what we expect. However, this practice has forced Chinese into a dilemma between our good picture of the U.S. and our instinct of protecting our motherland. Mr. President, please veto the absurd decision. Please show us the due courtesy and respect from a real great power.
