Servicemen have bravely fought across the globe in furtherance of America’s interests. The Military Compensation and Modernization Commission report effectively eviscerates the current system and replaces it with an inferior one in the name of cost savings. The answer to financial responsibility cannot be more cuts without substantive change. I propose that the president veto any changes to military pay and compensation without a bill addressing the structural deficiencies with Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security. Today politicians are asking the military to bear more of the burden to “relieve financial liability,” yet they refuse to address entitlement reform. Military personnel already sacrifice so much, please do not make them sacrifice their health and financial well being as well.
