We, the undersigned, request President Obama to veto the Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2012.
The Act includes provisions that will allow our military to detain U.S. citizens on U.S. soil indefinitely.
This provision violates the Sixth Amendment which guarantees all citizens a public and speedy trial before a jury of peers; and to be informed of the nature and the cause of the accusation.
The provisions in this Act are meant to dampen free speech and political discourse by allowing the military to define citizens on U.S. soil as enemy combatants eligible for indefinite detention.
To allow these provisions to be ratified into law is an insult to the very ideals we hold dear and will be a death blow to the Constitution. Please don't let our rights erode any further.
