By vetoing H.R.4038, the American Security Against Foreign Enemies Act of 2015, the Obama Administration can extend a welcoming hand to those fleeing persecution in their home countries, rather than shunning or further persecuting them in the United States. Those who have obtained "refugee" status have received this status through extensive background checks by the United Nations and Dept. of Homeland Security. Because of this, refugees are already some of the most thoroughly investigated individuals entering this country, and subjecting them to further investigation delays or denies them the help they so immediately need. The United States has, for many years, proudly held the status of a place of opportunity for all people. It is time to allow refugees that opportunity as well.
